pharmacological interventions for the management of coexisting mental health or medical problems in children and young people with autism in line with NICE guidance for children and young people, including:<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/cg72\" target=\"_top\">Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)<\/a>\u00a0(NICE clinical guideline 72)<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/cg158\" target=\"_top\">Conduct disorders in children and young people<\/a>\u00a0(NICE clinical guideline 158)<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/cg99\" target=\"_top\">Constipation in children and young people<\/a>\u00a0(NICE clinical guideline 99)<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/cg28\" target=\"_top\">Depression in children and young people<\/a>\u00a0(NICE clinical guideline 28)<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/cg137\" target=\"_top\">Epilepsy<\/a>\u00a0(NICE clinical guideline 137)<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/cg31\" target=\"_top\">Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and body dysmorphic disorder (BDD)<\/a>\u00a0(NICE clinical guideline 31)<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/cg26\" target=\"_top\">Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)<\/a>\u00a0(NICE clinical guideline 26).<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><h3>Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT)<\/h3><p>If using cognitive-behaviour therapy to treat a coexisting condition (e.g. anxiety) this should be adapted to the needs of children with autism.<\/p><p>This could be group CBT which has been adapted for autism, or alternatively individual CBT if the children finds a group setting difficult.<\/p><p>The following adaptations are recommended:<\/p><ul><li>emotion recognition training<\/li><li>greater use of written and visual information and structured worksheets<\/li><li>a more cognitively concrete and structured approach<\/li><li>simplified cognitive activities, for example, multiple-choice worksheets<\/li><li>involving a parent or carer to support the implementation of the intervention, for example, involving them in therapy sessions<\/li><li>maintaining attention by offering regular breaks<\/li><li>incorporating the child or young person&#8217;s special interests into therapy if possible.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column
