Such possible factors might be, for example<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A physical illness<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A mental illness<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">An issue with the person\u2019s physical or social environment<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If none of the above appears to be triggering or maintaining the behaviour, complete a functional analysis. This should aim to provide information, from a range of environments, on the following:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">factors that appear to trigger the behaviour<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the consequences of the behaviour (that is, the\u00a0reinforcement received as a result of their behaviour)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">identifying trends in behaviour occurrence, factors that may be evoking that behaviour, and the needs that the person is attempting to meet by performing the behaviour<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>When choosing an intervention, this should be based on the functional analysis and also the following:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the nature and severity of the behaviour<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the person&#8217;s physical needs and capabilities<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the physical and social environment<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the capacity of staff and families, partners or carers to provide support<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the preferences of the person with autism and, where appropriate, their family, partner or carer(s)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">past history of care and support<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"><br \/>The intervention should be based on behavioural principles and should include:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">clearly identified target behaviour(s)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a focus on outcomes that are linked to quality of life<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">assessment and modification of environmental factors that may contribute to initiating or maintaining the behaviour<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a clearly defined intervention strategy<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a clear schedule of reinforcement, and capacity to offer reinforcement promptly and contingently on demonstration of the desired behaviour<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a specified timescale to meet intervention goals (to promote modification of intervention strategies that do not lead to change within a specified time)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a systematic measure of the target behaviour(s) taken before and after the intervention to ascertain whether the agreed outcomes are being met<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column
