Mountain Movers is an ALN friendly educational community providing opportunities to families electively home educating in particular but not exclusively children with a disability. We aim to be inclusive of all needs and
abilities, with a goal to provide support and sessions designed for siblings of children with disability as well.

We are run by experienced home educators who are or have home educated a child with a disability. Our aim is to provide structured learning opportunities, inclusive sports and arts provisions as well as being a place of friendship, support and advocacy.

We hold a number of different sessions per week at different venues in the South Wales area of the UK. As a registered ASDAN centre, we offer ASDAN courses to all UK home educators.

We hope to reduce social isolation of both children and their families by providing a regular safe and confidential setting to facilitate the development of social skills as well as providing support, advice and signposting to
additional services.

We aspire to improve the skills and knowledge of parent/carers who have taken responsibility to provide the education for their children by providing access to training, advice and support so they are better equipped to educate their children in a rounded and informed manner.

We hope through the sharing of educational resources and the facilitation of educational opportunities and training, to reduce poverty and ease the financial burden faced by electively home educating families.

National Star launched its first education provision at Mamhilad, Torfaen, in September 2016. It is designed for young people with complex and multiple learning and physical disabilities, offering a sensory-based curriculum and a high level of care and support.

Our curriculum is individualised to each learner, focusing on developing independence, life skills, communication / social skills and preparing for life after college. Individualised programmes can include creative arts (art, music, IT, photography and multimedia), horticulture, cooking, sensory stories and leisure and accredited qualifications.

Welsh language and culture form a key part of the programme and include literacy, numeracy and IT.

Everyone has different abilities and requirements, and we will work with you to create programmes that meet your needs and goals. Our experienced team of staff will support you every step of the way to develop the skills and interests that are important to you. Your dedicated tutor will be on hand to ensure that you are able to get the very best out of life at college.

Our environment promotes interest-led learning, sensory approaches and specialised therapeutic support, ensuring individual needs are fully met.

National Star at Mamhilad recognises that the key to enable successful transition into adult life is imperative to have relationships with parents, carers, guardians and statutory organisations, whilst always promoting a person-centred approach.

The Public Services Ombudsman for Wales has legal powers to look into complaints about public services and independent care providers in Wales. The Ombudsman also investigates complaints that members of local government bodies have breached their authority’s code of conduct. He is independent of all government bodies and provides a free and independent service.

The Centre was established in response to the report, Raising our sights: review of Welsh for Adults, The Centre operates at arm’s length from Welsh Government, which funds it, and is part of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David Group.

I am a photographer specialising in working with children, adults, and families of those with ASD and associated conditions, disabled children, and adults and those with any additional learning needs. I also deliver training to children and adults on how to use your camera and take amazing photos regardless of the subject. I have lots of autistic individuals undertake these courses.

I have been working closely with the national autistic society and provide bi monthly mini sessions for those with any ASD OR ALN and I will be photographing the event taking place in Bridgend on 18th June 2022

Our Health & Social Care provision offers a wide variety of apprenticeships and courses, in order to accommodate all Health & Social care settings, across North Wales. We predominantly offer cover in the Gwynedd/Anglesey/Conwy and Denbighshire areas. Within hospital environments we are able to offer a level 2 and a level 3 apprenticeship in Clinical Healthcare Support. Our Health and Social Care core and practice apprenticeship qualifications are suitable for individuals working in care settings such as Domiciliary care, Residential Care homes, Nursing homes, Dementia Care homes and organisations that support individuals with both physical Autism Aware Org Application disabilities, learning disabilities and mental health difficulties. We also offer a wide range of qualifications within the primary care sector. This includes individuals who are working in General Practice, such as GP surgeries, Pharmacies, District nursing and Dental Care. Our course levels range from Level 2- 5 . We offer both apprenticeships, certificates and stand-alone course, in order to meet the needs of the sector and enhance individuals’ skills and continued professional development. All learners are given the opportunity to undertake these qualifications in the language of their choice. Throughout their qualifications, the learners are supported by an experienced and occupationally competent assessor.

Our work-based learning Essential Skills Wales provision supports apprentices throughout North Wales and beyond, to achieve the skills they need to complete their frameworks. We deliver: Application of Number Communication Digital Literacy. We are able to offer qualifications from Entry to Level 3. We support apprenticeships and offer stand-alone courses to support people in their career.

Our department delivers Btec vocational studies, City & Guilds Core and WJEC Principles and context, Health, Social Care and Childcare and Children’s Care Learning and Development programmes at Rhyl and Rhos ranging from level 1 to A level qualifications in FE education.

The teaching team has undergone essential Autism Wales awareness training, which has provided them with valuable strategies to accommodate, support, and include Autistic learners in the classroom. This includes providing clear and concise instructions, avoiding idioms, metaphors, and similes, and being mindful of background noise, as well as the effects of heat and lighting on learners with Autism. The department and delivering tutors now have a better understanding of Autism and the difficulties associated with communication, such as turn[1]taking and avoiding eye contact, as well as sensory and repetitive behaviour and mental health concerns. The animated films and advice sheets are extremely effective in providing information for teaching staff to adapt and support autistic learners in Further Education.

Hywel Dda University Health Board would like to highlight the hard work, commitment, dedication and enthusiasm of all staff working across ND services in helping to improve the lives of neurodivergent individuals is second to none. Part of this involves continued engagement with all areas across the Health Board to raise awareness and improve understanding. 

To facilitate this, we have developed a Neurodivergent strategy which includes partnership working with the National Neurodivergent team in the delivery of webinars, along with developing bespoke training packages to all areas across the Health Board on request. A special interest group has recently been launched and we hope to encourage wider engagement across the Health Board in time.
